The Child Welfare Committee of the New Hanover Disaster Coalition works together to make sure that children’s needs are met in times of disaster. Children, those of the population most reliant on others for their safety and well-being, are the bellwethers of a society, so when they are well, the rest of a community is also well. The group meets monthly, and is guided by a partnership with the National Center for Disaster Preparedness, out of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
